360-degree millimeter-wave coverage from 5 GHz to 170 GHz

The Mi-Wave 267 series omnidirectional antenna is a precision-machined millimeter-wave antenna covering 5 GHz to 170 GHz. It radiates uniformly through 360 degrees of azimuth, so no rotator or steering is needed to see every direction. Wideband coaxial versions and waveguide versions for X-band through D-band are offered, and Mi-Wave can build custom frequency ranges, interfaces and mounts. Engineers reach for it as a reference antenna in OTA testing, a sensor in spectrum monitoring, and a ground-side antenna for telemetry links.

Overview

The Mi-Wave 267 series is machined to close tolerances so that its pattern stays consistent and repeatable across the operating band. Radiation is uniform through 360 degrees in azimuth with an elevation half-power beamwidth of about 45 degrees; gain is typically 3 to 4 dB and return loss is at least 14 dB on the wideband coaxial models, 17 dB on the X-band and Ku-band coaxial models and 20 dB on the waveguide models. The family includes wideband coaxial versions (5 to 70 GHz) and waveguide versions for the X, Ku, K, Ka, Q, U, V, E, W and D bands, with SMA female, K female, 2.4 mm female and standard UG flange interfaces. Before ordering, decide whether you want a single-band waveguide unit or a wideband coaxial one, and check the input power limit, which drops sharply at the top of the range. Mi-Wave's own plant in St. Petersburg, Florida houses its machine shop, laboratories and anechoic chamber, and custom frequency ranges, mounts and mechanical designs are available. Typical uses are surveillance networks, telemetry systems, RF measurement probes and millimeter-wave automotive radar.

Millimeter-wave OTA radiated testing

In V-band (50 to 75 GHz) or E-band (60 to 90 GHz) 5G NR over-the-air (OTA) testing, engineers place a 267 series antenna in the anechoic chamber as the reference. Its uniform 360-degree azimuth coverage lets them measure EIRP and EIS of the device under test (DUT) in every direction without rotating the antenna, cutting validation time.

At airports, base station sites and research campuses, RF engineers deploy the 267 series as a wideband (up to 5 to 70 GHz) omnidirectional sensor that scans the environment for spurious signals, co-channel interference and unauthorized transmitters.
