Uncertainty held to the digit you actually need

A measurement instrument is only worth what its number can be trusted for. The three lines we carry each answer one specific way that number goes wrong: long-term drift in time and frequency, the safe-current limit when measuring the resistance of an igniter, and the extrapolation error that comes from ballistic coefficients measured only over short range.

We join at the selection stage. We first confirm the quantity you need to measure, the target uncertainty and the site conditions, then settle on a model. After delivery, the same engineers handle calibration traceability, firmware updates and measurement questions. Pendulum counters and AMPTEC safety ohmmeters are also available for short-term rental.

Time and frequency

Problem: oscillators drift, and how much they drift depends on how long you observe them. A single reading tells you nothing about stability.

Approach: multi-channel, zero-dead-time measurement gives continuous data. Allan deviation describes stability at each averaging time. A GNSS-disciplined rubidium reference provides a base traceable to UTC.

Pendulum product line

Pyrotechnics and low resistance

Problem: when measuring an igniter bridgewire, an ordinary meter can source enough current to fire the device under test. Bonding resistance, at the other end, is so low that lead resistance swamps it.

Approach: intrinsically safe models limit the test current to far below the no-fire threshold and carry explosion-protection certification. For low resistance, four-wire Kelvin measurement removes lead and contact resistance from the reading.

AMPTEC product line

Ballistics and muzzle velocity

Problem: published ballistic coefficients are mostly measured over short range, so the error grows when you extrapolate to long range. Recording only the peak chamber pressure hides how the charge actually behaves.

Approach: measure muzzle velocity and downrange time of flight together to obtain a measured ballistic coefficient. Sample chamber pressure on two synchronized channels at microsecond resolution to recover the full pressure-time curve.
