Keep the capital for your product, keep the flexibility for the measurement

Measuring the resistance of an igniter or electric detonator with an ordinary multimeter is unsafe: the test current itself can fire the device under test. Bonding and ground continuity readings, on the other hand, sit in the milliohm or even microohm range, where lead and contact resistance easily swamp the value you are after. AMPTEC's intrinsically safe models and its four-wire Kelvin models each solve one of these problems. Evencat is the sole distributor for AMPTEC Research in Taiwan. Units are available to rent for lot acceptance, type testing, audits or while your own instrument is out for calibration, and we provide operator training.

Four steps to an instrument on your bench

1

Describe the job

Tell us what you need to measure, the specification you must meet and the dates. You do not need to know the model yet.

2

Selection and quote

An engineer confirms a suitable model and its availability, then sends a rental plan and price.

3

Shipment and handover

We check calibration status and accessories before shipping. On-site setup and a short operating briefing can be arranged.

4

Support during the rental

Technical questions during the period go to our engineers. The term can be extended as the project moves.

AMPTEC Research rental FAQ

Why can't I measure an igniter with an ordinary multimeter?

The current an ordinary multimeter drives through the device under test on its resistance range can be enough to fire the bridgewire. AMPTEC's intrinsically safe models limit the test current to a level far below the no-fire threshold (typically below the milliamp range, depending on the model) and carry explosion-protection certification. That is the precondition for a safe measurement.

Do rental units come with explosion-protection and military-standard certification documents?

Yes. Depending on the model, AMPTEC instruments carry MIL-STD-810F, UL-913 and ISO 9001:2015 certification, and some models also carry ATEX. Tell us the hazardous-area classification of your workplace and the standards you need evidence for when you request a quote, and we will confirm which model qualifies.

Does the rental include operator training?

It can be arranged. The procedure for an intrinsically safe measurement differs from an ordinary resistance measurement, so we recommend training for teams using the instrument for the first time. It covers the measurement procedure, safety precautions and how to read the results.

Why does a bonding measurement have to use the four-wire method?

Below one milliohm, the resistance of the test leads and the contact resistance at the probes are often of the same order as the value under test, or larger. A four-wire (Kelvin) measurement uses separate current and voltage loops so that lead resistance is excluded from the reading. That is the precondition for a number you can trust.

Should I choose the 620LK-HR or the 720A?

It depends on the measurement range and the site conditions. The 620LK-HR is a bonding tester, suited to field checks of aerospace bonding and ground continuity. The 720A is a micro-ohmmeter, suited to precision low-resistance measurement in the lab or on the production line. Tell us what you are measuring and the resolution you need and we will recommend a model.

How is the calibration status of a rental unit confirmed?

Rental units can be supplied with calibration documents. Pyrotechnic measurement usually places tighter demands on measurement uncertainty, so state your quality requirements when you request a quote and we will confirm the calibration interval and the form of certificate.
