AMPTEC Research · Intrinsically Safe Explosion-Proof Igniter Testers
620UK
Portable intrinsically safe digital igniter tester ohmmeter for ultra-safe resistance measurement on explosive devices.
The Amptec 620UK is the portable EEX igniter tester for squibs, flares and explosive bridge wires. Its failsafe design holds the test current under 8 mA under any fault, while seven ranges from 2 Ω to 2 MΩ and ±0.02% of reading accuracy cover most initiator tolerance checks. It complies with the EU ATEX Directive and UL-913, so it can be used inside hazardous areas. Lab and field engineers pick it when they need a light, battery-powered meter that is certified for the zone they work in. Evencat is the sole distributor for AMPTEC Research in Taiwan.
Overview
The 620UK is a portable EEX digital igniter tester built for resistance measurement on squibs, flares, bridge wires and similar explosive devices. It offers seven ranges: 2 Ω, 20 Ω, 200 Ω, 2 KΩ, 20 KΩ, 200 KΩ and 2 MΩ. Nominal current is 5 mA on the low ranges and the failsafe limit is 8 mA, so the current through the device under test stays inside a safe band even when the meter itself fails. Most ranges hold ±0.02% of reading and ±0.05% of range, with resolution down to 100 µΩ. The reading appears on a 4 1/2 digit LCD and the input is an Amphenol 2-wire Kelvin connector. The failsafe design meets the EU ATEX Directive, intrinsic safety standard EEX-9B-IIC-T4, USA MIL-STD-810F and UL-913, and the meter is built under ISO 9001:2015. It accepts 630-series test leads. Before ordering, decide whether 2-wire measurement is enough: if lead resistance would matter on your lowest ranges, the 620UK-V4 is the 4-wire version of the same meter.

Features
Failsafe design
A failsafe current-limiting network keeps the test current at 8mA or less, so what flows through the explosive device stays inside a safe band. Meets the EU ATEX Directive and intrinsic safety standard EEX-9B-IIC-T4.
Accurate measurement
Most ranges hold ±0.02% of reading and ±0.05% of range, with resolution down to 100µΩ, enough for tight bridge wire and detonator tolerances.
Seven ranges
Coverage from 2Ω to 2MΩ in seven ranges handles detonators, flares and bridge wires as well as higher-resistance initiator circuits.
4 1/2 digit LCD
A 4 1/2 digit LCD and an Amphenol 2-wire Kelvin connector, updating 3 times a second, give a readout that is easy to read at a glance.
Portable
The case measures 7.69" × 7.56" × 3" and weighs 5 lbs, and the meter runs on 4 x 1.5V AA alkaline cells, so it moves between bench and site without a charger.
Military and safety approvals
Qualified to USA MIL-STD-810F and UL-913, built under ISO 9001:2015 and compatible with 630-series test leads, for aerospace, defense and ordnance work.
Typical applications

Aerospace and defense
Pre-launch resistance acceptance of pyrotechnic bridge wires
Rocket motors, missiles and satellite separation devices must show in-tolerance bridge wire resistance before launch. The 620UK holds the test current under 8mA so sensitive initiators are not fired, and its ±0.02% of reading accuracy produces records that meet NASA and USAF acceptance practice.
Ordnance manufacturing
Quality control on munitions and pyrotechnic lines
Ammunition plants and pyrotechnic makers screen 100% of fuzes, explosive bolts and tracer bridge wires at the end of assembly. The 620UK carries EU ATEX EEX-9B-IIC-T4 and UL-913 intrinsic safety approval, so it can be operated on a floor with combustible dust or explosive gas without a separate protected test room.

Blasting engineering
Continuity and resistance checks at industrial blasting sites
In mining, tunneling and demolition blasting, each detonator is measured after wiring to rule out open or shorted circuits. The 620UK is qualified to MIL-STD-810F, tolerates shock and temperatures from -20°C to 40°C, and goes straight to work outdoors, shortening the safety check before every shot.
